The Bible is Daily Bread, Not Cake For Special Occasions!

Do you see this picture of the cake?  If you do see the picture of the cake then read the words that says, "The Bible is meant to be bread for daily nourishment, not cake that is taken out for special occasions."  Now I do appreciate people who read from 1 Corinthians 13 during weddings or read the Bible during inaugurations but remember, the Bible is not the cake for the special occasion but it's the daily bread for Christian living.  Matthew 4:4 and Luke 4:4 has Jesus saying to Satan that man does not live by bread alone but by the every Word that comes from the mouth of God.  The verse is quoted from Deuteronomy 8:3 which says God permitted the Israelites to hunger so they will learn to trust on His provision while they do His will.

It becomes a problem when people treat the Bible as cake for special occasions rather than bread for daily sustenance.  Why do they fail to read the Bible daily but only read it when it's needed?  Remembering the Lord's prayer that says, "Give us this day our daily bread.", the Word of God is the daily spiritual bread of the Christian.  It is stupid to think of the Bible as the cake for weddings, inaugurations and graduations.  When the Bible is read during special occasions, it's just like how rice or bread is served in special occasions - it is served as a daily need and not the food that is for special occasions.  God did not intend Scriptures to be just applied during celebrations but also during our daily life.  It's like the rice and bread - you see it in the buffet but it's also part of daily sustenance.  If a Muslim can get up early in the morning for their morning prayer or if a a Roman Catholic can get up early in the morning to pray the Rosary for fifteen minutes or more, it's a shame if a Christian spends less time reading the Bible or doesn't make an effort to wake up to read the Bible and spend time in prayer with God before starting the day or reads the Bible at lunchbreak or before going to bed.

Joshua 1:8 gives a command and a promise when it says, "This Book of the Law shall not depart out of thy mouth but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous then thou shalt have good success."  This command was given to Joshua as the Israelites were ready to drive out the Canaanites out of their land as the time had already come.  The previous verse even emphasizes, "Only be thou strong and very courageous that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest."  God commanded Joshua and his team to observe to do all that is written therein in the Book of the Law, Christians are commanded to do likewise.  The only difference is Christians are not bound to the ceremonial law but they are still bound to the same moral law.

Sad to say but the picture above really shows how much the Bible is ironically the most sold book in history (or one of the most sold books in history) but how many people really bother to read its contents?  How many people really have a Bible at home but don't read it as much or from my experience, I saw other Bibles that had collected so much dust and they have not been read for ages while the people living in the house know too much about the latest sports or TV programs but have they been reading their Bible?
